BIG CATS

The male Siberian or Amur Tiger is the largest cat in the world - some have measured 3.2 meters in body length, excluding the tail.

Big Cats 5

The power of these big cats is such that they prey on guar bulls which can weigh as much as 1000kg.

Big Cats 7

Below the tiger, the lion runs a close second in body size, with the other big cats being considerably smaller than these two felid giants.

Jaguars

Jaguars have a compact body with broad head and powerful paws. Their coat is a yellowish-brown with a pale chest and black spots.

Jaguars are big cats between five to six feet in length from head to tip of tail, and weigh 140-220 pounds.

Big Cats 9

Although very rare, they can still be found in Mexico, Central America, eastern Brazil and Patagonia.

They swim and climb very well, live in caves and canyons, prefer thick forest or swamps and need to be fairly close to a source of fresh water.

Big Cats 1

They feed on wild pigs, deer, fresh water fish, and smaller animals. Jaguars stalk and ambush their kill before eating it.

The fur of the cat serves two distinct purposes - firstly it protects the animal against the extremes of its environment and secondly serves as camouflage to make the cat less easy to spot against the background of its habitat.

Big Cats 3

Over the years it has become used as a common name applied to any black big cat.

Big Cats 4

When you see pictures of Black Panther big cats you are most likely looking at a Leopard or Jaguar with dark coloured skin and hair pigment.

Big Cats For Sale

Many people do keep big cats. However, care, commitment and very responsible ownership are necessary with owning big cats.

Big Cats 10

You also need to consider the costs. Exotic cats range in price. The more rare the cat, the higher the price.

Big Cats 11

Most people think the cost of the cat is the big expense, but that is just the beginning. Diet, nutrition, general day-to-day-care, as well as veterinary costs will all add up!

A note if you are still considering buying a big cat: even if not overtly aggressive, the natural tendencies of these animals must be remembered. They are predators, and even at play their huge size and strength makes them a threat.
