BIG CATS
The male Siberian or Amur Tiger is the largest cat in the world -
some have measured 3.2 meters in body length,
excluding the tail.
The power of these big cats is such
that they prey on guar bulls which can weigh as much as
1000kg.
Below the tiger, the lion runs a close second in body size,
with the other big cats being considerably smaller than these two
felid giants.
Jaguars
Jaguars have a compact body with broad head and powerful paws. Their coat is a
yellowish-brown with a pale chest and black spots.
Jaguars are big cats between five to six
feet in length from head to tip of tail, and weigh 140-220 pounds.
Although very rare, they can still be found in
Mexico, Central America, eastern Brazil
and Patagonia.
They swim and climb very well, live in caves and canyons,prefer thick forest or swamps and
need to be fairly close to a source of fresh water.
They feed on wild pigs, deer,
fresh water fish, and smaller animals.
Jaguars stalk and ambush
their kill before eating it.

Black Panthers
The term Black Panther is used in connection with large
black cats - however there is no one species
called a Black Panther.
Over the years it has become used as a
common name applied to any black big cat.
When
you see pictures of Black Panther big cats you are most likely
looking at a Leopard or Jaguar with dark coloured skin and hair pigment.
